Cans Around the Oval 2008
Cans Around the Oval is a Colorado State University tradition, where students, faculty, and staff partner with community members, local media, and area businesses to raise awareness about the facts surrounding the issue of hunger. This event is Larimer County's largest one-day food drive, and is the largest food donation event for the Food Bank all year. With its variety of programs, the Larimer County Food Bank fights hunger in our own community every day. By joining the cans team through donating cans, collecting canned food, or even contributing what you can financially, you are making a difference in the lives of thousands of Larimer County residents. 3rd Annual Spoons Restaraunt Stone Soup
Kicking off September 5, 2008 at the CSU Community Involvement Expo 9am - 2pm
Each year Spoons of Fort Collins provides a large quantity of soup to CSU for Cans Around the Oval. The delicious Spoons creation is made exclusively with produce donated by local farmers. All proceeds from sales are donated to the Larimer County Food Bank. This year Stone Soup will be available for sale around CSU and the Fort Collins community in places such as farmer's markets, on the plaza for special events and many more locations. Check this site weekly for locations of Stone Soup to see when it will be in your area! You can also contact the SLiCE office at 491-1682 for locations.
Supply Distribution Day - September 17, 2008 9am-5:30pm
Groups and individuals who would like to participate in this year’s Cans Around the Oval food drive can pick up their food drive kits on Wednesday, September 17, 2008. Each kit contains food collection boxes, flyers, neighborhood maps, information packets, canvassing tips, challenge/agreement forms and more. Supplies will be distributed between 9:00am and 5:30pm from the ASCSU Senate Chambers on the main level of the Lory Student Center. Please park in the library parking lot. CanStruction - Wednesday, October 10, 2008 5pm-9pm
Register your Cans Around the Oval team for CANStruction, happening October 10 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Colorado State Homecoming Carnival Celebration. Participating teams will create a structure on west lawn at CSU during the homecoming festivities out of the nonperishable food items that they have collected for Cans Around the Oval. CANStruction is an excellent opportunity to earn extra bonus points that will go towards Cans Around the Oval team totals. It is a growing phenomenon around the country that is both a lot of fun and truly beneficial to our community. For ideas, just search Canstruction on the internet. Teams must register prior to CANStruction with the Office of Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement, and must adhere to the rules of the contest to be considered for the competition. Cans Around the Oval - October 10, 2008 10am-2pm
Participating groups should drop off non-perishable food items at the CSU oval between 10am and 4pm. The schedule for drop-offs is as follows:

Hunger Action Month
This year, Cans Around the Oval is coinciding with a new push for hunger action and awareness around the country. Hunger Action Month is sponsored by Larimer County Food Bank's national coalition Second Harvest. CSU has a chance to be a part of a national effort to end hunger, thereby allowing the CSU community to be a part of something even bigger.
