2006 PRAXIS Groups

Group Name: Cyclical Collections

The purpose of Cyclical Collections is to increase recycling within Fort Collins. Cyclical Collections volunteers will pick up recyclables using bicycles and trailers on weekend mornings in neighborhoods north of the CSU campus. This project is valuable not only to the residents of that specific neighborhood but also to the City of Fort Collins as a whole. This area is often plagued by party trash (primarily beer cans and bottles) which can be recycled as part of this project. In addition, residents benefit from having the opportunity to recycle free of charge. By using bicycles, Cyclical Collections will increase the public perception of the versatility of bicycles and reduce pollution from trash trucks and cars.

The community partners for Cyclical Collections include Off-Campus Student Services, CSU Recycling, and The City of Fort Collins.

Group Name: Tackling Financial Literacy

With a third of all high school students carrying credit cards and even more carrying debit cards, Tackling Financial Literacy believes it is essential for students to understand the basics of personal finance and the consequences of their actions. To begin making a difference in Fort Collins, Tackling Financial Literacy will develop a financial literacy program that allows CSU students to educate area high school students on the basics of personal finance.

The community partners for Tackling Financial Literacy include the Poudre School District and Consumer Credit Counseling Service.
